This chapter seeks to explain how
the world came into existence; how man and other creatures were created; the
fall of man: and the two major worlds on earth.
Genesis 1:1 states that God created
the heavens and the earth. However, there are different myths about the
creation of the world either because of ignorance about true facts regarding
creation or intentional refusal to believe these fact. Some theories, which are
just personal believes without proves, advanced by some evolutionist contradict
Bible story of creation. Concluding statements of these theories have confirmed
Bible narratives about creation as valid.
Genesis 1:3 reveals that before creation,
the earth was without form, empty and covered with darkness. With words
declared by God, light was created and separated from darkness on the first
day. The heavens were created and separated from waters the second day. God proceeded
on the third day with the creation of dry land and vegetation. The moon, sun
and stars were created on the fourth day while creatures of the waters and
birds were created on the fifth day. On the sixth day, God created the land
animals and Man
Man was created in His image (Gen
1:26-27). God molded him from the dust of the ground and then breathe life into
him. The first man, called Adam, was given a soul, a spirit and a mind to
enable him learn. The woman, Eve, was created from one of the ribs of man after
causing him to fall into a deep sleep (Gen 2: 18-25). God created man to
represent him on earth. He gave him
dominion over the whole earth and everything in it and also to multiply and
fill the earth (Gen 1:28). The man and the woman we placed in the beautiful
garden of Eden to take care of it.
This
garden had many trees. They were to eat of the fruits of all the trees except
the tree of life and of good and evil. Man did not heed to God’s warning. Satan,
who did not want man to serve God, deceived man through the woman Eve to eat of
the tree of knowledge of good and evil. There came the fall of man into sin. Man
lost his dominion over the earth. Animals became wild, the weather conditions
became hash and the earth produced thorns and thistles. Man lost his intimate
relationship with God and was driven out of the garden of Eden.
The sin of man and the
deceptive nature of satan caused God to declare perpetual battle between the
two parties for centuries. However God promised to send the seed of a woman,
the savior, to crush the enemy of man and restore the relationship man once had
with God his creator.(Gen 3:15).
The battle imposed between man and
satan due to the fall of man reveals that two worlds exist; the natural world
which is what man sees with his physical eyes and the spiritual world which
involves spirits and cannot be perceived with the physical eyes. Therefore, to
develop a Biblical world view, which implies seeing the world the way the word
of God describes it, we must bear in mind; that Man lives in both worlds since
they possess both the physical and the spiritual body; that conflicts of the spiritual
world have a palpable effect in the natural world; and that there is no neutral
ground in the spiritual world. You are either for or against Jesus. This
depends on ones believe in the word of God. If we believe in it, we are for Him
but if we do not believe His word, we are against Him.
