Chapter Eight: BECOMING A
WORLD CHRISTIAN
A world Christian is one who believes in God
Almighty and recognizes the Holy Bible as the written word of God. He/She acknowledges
that God’s plan of salvation for the world is through Jesus Christ. He/She
believes in the Biblical World view and is ready to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ
to the ends of the world.
In our previews chapters, it is
revealed that the church needs to preach the word of God to the perishing
world. Statistics have shown that many Christians have been supporting
evangelism through their finances. That is, through offerings in church,
support to missionaries in the field etc. However this is not sufficient given
that there are still many unreached population out there. Moreover, when Jesus
Christ spoke of “Go ye to the world”, it was not limited to those who have been
called to be missionaries or servants of God. It was for every believer to participate
in the preaching of the gospel. This implies that everyone is considered as an
evangelist (John 15:16).
The Bible days churches succeeded in
the spread of the gospel because everyone who had believed made an effort to
share the good news to at least one person (Acts 8:4, 2Tim 2:2). They practised
the “Each One Teach One” strategy. Philip’s ministration in Acts 8 is good
example of this method of spreading the gospel. This strategy also gave room to
cross-cultural evangelism as illustrated in Acts 10 where Peter, a Jew, went
and preached the gospel in the house of a Gentile called Cornelius. In addition
to this, teaching of the laws were not only limited to the temples. It was also
practised in homes (Acts 5:42), thus increasing the chances for more souls to
be worn for Christ.
These practices facilitated the spread of
the gospel. A true World Christian should not abandon the spread of the good
news of Jesus Christ to evangelist or men of God. They should embrace the great
commission challenge and preach the word in their homes, families,
neighbourhood and communities, ensuring that they win, at least a soul for
Christ each year. By so doing, the number of true believers will multiply as the
years go by if the trend continues.
Some tips that can make us become
successful world Christians include:
· Obeying
God’s assignments on a daily basis no matter how insignificant it may be.
· Be
willing to go to where every God sends us.
· Studying
to understand the spiritual needs of the world by reading related books,
journals, travelling etc. This will help us to improve on our spiritual vision
and skills in evangelism.
· Praying
for the nations and also put your spiritual gift into practice.
· Joining
the witness group in your church or create one if there is none.
· Getting
in contact with other missionary groups to learn from their experiences and/or
share your experience with them.
Thank you so very much.
In our generation many think the call for witnessing or carrying out the great commission was for a particular set of people.
And suddenly the Great commission has now become the great omission in our age.
Great write up, very edifying thanks
