Lesson two – Active listening
A pastor during counseling should make sure he or she should be skilled in active listening, focusing on the attention of the speaker and responding accordingly. This helps support and comfort people seeking validation and advice because their opinions and values are respected without any personal bias. This makes the counseling environment more conducive and through active listening, rapport is built, trust forms and the speaker feels heard and understood by the counsellor or listener.
