Lesson 4: The old testament Canon
The word Canon is an ancient Greek and Latin term   meaning ” standard or measure ”  God addressed specific opportunities and challenges that his kingdom faced through a variety of royal communiques, some of which we now have in the Cabin of the old testament revealing how scriptures were written as God’s authoritative standard for his people throughout the ages.
When we approach the old testament Canon as a mirror,  we are looking primarily for what the old testament has to say about our concerns and our questions even if those terms are only secondary or minor aspects of the scriptures themselves- thematic analysis  and by this two major issues are touched- the basis of justification for this strategy and focus of this strategy.
As a window  we see how  the old testament  scriptures transformed the ancient pagan word into christians. Biblically, faith is built on the fact that God acted in history and the result is revealed in ancient scriptures. And to explore this effectively we look at the basis and  focus of this strategy.
The old testament is a collection of literary works , a library of books as it were. God’s faithful people through our the ages gained many insights into the significance of the old testament books by approaching them as a picture or literacy portraits. this makes the canons look like a picture or going through a museum. To get all answers to questions that you might desire you again have to study the basis and the focus  of this third strategy.
As a faithful follower of Christ, we learn how to approach the books of the old testament as mirrors, that address our interests and needs, as windows that reveal God’s mighty acts in history and as literacy portraits that emphasize particular paths of service that God’s people should pursue.
