Lesson 3: The New Covenant
To talk more about new covenants we will examine kingdom administration and dynamics of interaction.
Covenants in kingdom administration is a solem agreement or pact.Remember the new testament was written in the period when ancient suzerains administered their kingdoms by making treaties with lesser kings or vassals.so in the old testament God chose covenant representatives and in the new testament, the new covenant. With Jesus Christ as the new covenant representative. Hebrews 9:15.
The new covenant will bring God’s kingdom to its ultimate end when “God will forgive his people’s sins.
The organic development of God’s covenants look like this- Adam, Noah, Abraham, Moses,David, and Christ.so we must note that though it is called a new covenant, it isn’t disconnected from the old. It’s simply a progression from old to new with various personalities changing.
New testament authors described the interactions between God and his covenant in countless ways in which God was always calling on his people to repent end come back to him. So personal relationship between God and his people didn’t start in n the new testament and God always tested his children’s loyalty.Zhe demanded total loyalty from them in both the new and old testament.we must state that for every act- obedience or disobedience, there was always a consequence, s blessing or a curse.
The new testament theology emphasizes that Christ as the representative of the new experienced both God’s curses and blessings.(Gal 3:3)
