Chapter 5: Bible Study tools
These are additional study materials that can help you to effectively study the Bible, but they don’t replace the Bible itself!
They are:
-1.Bible concordance- it’s an alphabetical listing of main words in the Bible withing the immediate context of the word.A Bible concordance- is helpful in three ways:
* to locate all the references to a word.
* To locate a specific text and
* To find the meaning of a word.
There are two good ones- the analytical concordance by Robert Young and the Exhaustive Concordance- by James Strong
2. Bible Dictionary: It
3. word lists words of the Bible in alphabetical order and explains the meaning of each word. Two good ones are Unger’s Bible Dictionary by Merrill Unger and Zondervan pictorial Bible Dictionary by Merrill C.
3. Word Study Books. Provides references in which a word is used. Example an expository Dictionary of New testament and old words by W.E Vine
4.Bible Commentary- it’s a book that provides comments about scriptures in the Bible. Example- The Wycliffe Bible Commentary by Charles F. Pfeiffer.
6. Bible atlas- contains maps and information on the lands of the Bible. E.g compact Bible atlas- and two more.
7 Topical text book- it organizes the Bible under major topical listings and gives the verses where these topics are discussed.
8. Bible handbook a summary of selected information about the Bible. E.g Unger’s Bible handbook.
9. Internet- you can access all these tools in the internet.
