Many at time it’s not that we don’t hear Gods voice, but we find it hard to obeying what we hear or know. So in this Chapter unlike the first Chapter, we will try to how we can go the wrong Way even after Knowing God’s voice. Chapter 4 title KNOWING God’s Voice.
Heading the wrong direction. Jeremiah 10:23.
It is just as important to know not to do something as it is to know how to do it. In the Bible God warns of ways you should not seek guidance for your life. If you heed this warnings, you will not waste time with non- biblical methods of guidance of which God does not approve. This will prevent you from making wrong decisions and heading the wrong direction in your life.
I will like to share on some of the ways that we should not seek guidance as Christians.
1) The occult.
These are numerous satanic practices group under the heading of occult. Occult practices vary from nation to nation but they include such method of witches, sorcerer’s, magicians, fortune tellers, astrology.
God warn his people not to deal with occult practices. Deuteronomy 18:9-14.
2) method of chances.
Casting lots was one of methods of seeking guidance used in the old testament. Leviticus 16:7-10, Numbers 26 :55. Casting lots was a method of chance . The belief was that God controlled the outcome of the lots which was cast. It was similar to the rolling of dice or flipping of coin today.
3). Fleeces
There is one old testament record of the us of something called a fleece to determine God’s will. The story of Gideon in judges 6:36-40.
God spoke to Gideon and revealed his will . To confirm what God has said, Gideon put out a fleece of skin on the ground. One day he asked God to let dew fall all around but fleece. On another day, he asked God for dew on the fleece and the surrounding ground to remain dry. We are not seeking God’s will by putting a fleece. Modern putting out a fleece is usually done by saying if a certain things happens, then I will know it is God’s will.
Gideon already knew God’s will. He had heard the voice of God. The fleece was used for confirmation, not for direction. It was also something that could be answered by supernatural means.
In the new testament , Zacharias ask for a sign to confirm the birth of john the Baptist and he was left dumb. We should walk by faith…
We have found ourselves at times heading to the wrong direction in life and in our christian faith. .. casting lots and throwing fleeces on God and at times even ask for a sign to know if God is really the one speaking… Hab.2.4 – “Behold the proud, His soul is not upright in him; But the just shall live by his faith.
But the bible makes us to understand that, without faith it is impossible to please God.
